ABS provides a wide range of normal human tissues for biomarker and drug discovery research from our network of human tissue biobanks and organ procurement organizations. All tissues are acquired with appropriate consent for biomedical research with possible commercial research uses.
Brain, brain regions such as hippocampus, cortex, and striatum are readily available. Likewise, tissues from major organs such as heart, lung, liver, and intestine are generally available. More specialized dissections or tissue preparations may take longer to acquire. Similarly, the more restrictions that are placed upon donor variables such as younger adult age ranges and specific medical or medication histories, the longer it may take to acquire specific samples.

Postmortem tissues are typically frozen within 4 hr of death. No tissues are taken with a postmortem interval greater than 8 hr, unless we are instructed otherwise.
Our first priority is to enable the effective treatment of human diseases. Therefore, we actively support and work with organ transplant organizations in their critical mission. Only non-transplantable tissues are acquired from these groups.
